Definition of key terms
}  Instruction media
}   Instructional media encompasses all the materials and physical means an instructor might use to implement instruction and facilitate students' achievement of instructional objectives.
}   The Instruction media  include traditional materials such as chalkboards, handouts, charts, slides, overheads, real objects, and videotape or film, as well newer materials and methods such as computers, DVDs, CD-ROMs, the Internet, and interactive video conferencing.
Chalkboard

Handbook

Overhead Projector

Computer

Television

Technology
}  Is the application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing and manipulating the human environment. Technology includes the use of materials, tools, techniques, and sources of power to make life easier  and work more productive(encyclopedia)
A teacher
}  A teacher  is a person who provides education for pupils  and students . The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing, carried out at a school or other place of formal education.
A teacher teaching the learners

Methodology
A system of broad principles or rules from which specific methods or procedures may be derived to interpret or solve different problems within the scope of a particular discipline. Unlike an algorithm, a methodology is not a formula but a set of practices.
Types of methodology
Ø  Didactic- Direct teaching; Verbal and typically in the form of a lecture or presentation.
Ø   Modeling- Direct teaching; Visual and typically in the form of demonstration and practice.
Ø   Managerial- Indirect or Interactive teaching; Facilitation, individualization and group management.
Ø   Dialogic- Indirect Interactive teaching; Socratic Technique of dialogue, questions and thought provocations.
Example of  Didactic- Direct teaching

Example of Dialogic- Indirect Interactive teaching

Effective teaching
Ø  Is a process where by a teacher is one who has an achievement-motivated personality with a strong commitment and rich teaching experiences. He or she is expected to has a motivation to teach, empathy towards children, and good records at college GPA and student teaching
Ø  Effective teaching involve instructional activities, objectives of teaching and assessment
Example of effective teaching

The instruction media and technology and methodology can bring effective teaching through
Ø  Attracting attention
Ø  Developing interest
Ø  Adjusting the learning climate
Ø  Promoting acceptance (of an idea)
Ø  Creates an active environment where students know different methods of solving their problem.
Ø  It provide  skills  and concept through multiple presentation and enhanced visualization.
Ø  Plays critical role in academic context like successful implementation.
Additional role
Ø  Makes education accessible to all students including those with special needs.
Ø  Provides the teaching tools which will promote effective teaching.
Example of Attracting attention

Media which develop interest

Adjusting the learning climate

Promoting acceptance

Creates an active environment

Plays critical role in academic context

Special needs like blind use kurzweil machine

 Conclusion
}  Effective teaching always can be implemented by a professional teacher who is competent in using technology and methodology of teaching as well as helping students to solve educational problem by ensuring its instruction activities, objectives and assessment in teaching measure the success of learners. Also instructional technology should not be confused with teaching or instruction or learning or engineering but it should be taken as sum total of all such aspects which shaping the personality of the learner in a meaningful context.

TED 501 EDUCATIONAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY.
QUESTION  44.
Would the application of New Media and Technology assess students prior knowledge and either provides the instructor with relevant information about students’ knowledge and skills if their prior knowledge is weak?
DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
 MEDIA
Is the various means of mass communication considered as a whole, including television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, together with the people involved in their production

 TECHNOLOGY
Is the method of applying technical knowledge: a method or methodology that applies technical knowledge or tools

STUDENT’S PRIOR KNOWLEDLEGE
It means a range of pre-existing knowledge. Students come to a course with a wide range of pre-existing knowledge as well as set of beliefs, values and attitudes. This help an instructor to determine what to teach and how to teach it.

Methods of assessing student’s prior knowledge
A teacher should ask students different questions concerning the topic which is going to teach especially when using the new media and technology , example how to search different materials through using internet.

  Concept Inventories
It is a criterion-referenced test designed to evaluate whether a student has an accurate working knowledge of a specific set of concepts.

  Concept maps
A teacher can project a map and ask students to tell what they see.

  Performance based prior knowledge assessments

Use of heterogeneous grouping and cooperative learning to facilitate the sharing of prior knowledge and engage students in their own learning.

If their prior knowledge is weak, a teacher should;
Creates an authentic learning experience  using  newspapers, brochures, job application forms and news broad casts provides authentic opportunities for students to learn using real world media.

Appeal to multiple learning styles media appeal to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners.

Strengthens critical thinking skills, teacher can use media to arose or activate critical thinking skills.

CONCLUSION
The application of new media and technology in classroom assess the student prior knowledge and help the instructor to know the prior knowledge of the student as the result of understanding which ways to use in conducting knowledge, skills and attitude to the students for the case of making a well rounded man in the world.
